Handling Concerns at Austin Galano Club

The Austin Galano Club aims to be a safe, welcoming place for recovery. Part of that is having a clear, respectful way to handle concerns—whether they’re between individuals, within a meeting, or at the club level.

The 12 Steps and 12 Traditions give us a helpful structure for this.

The 12 Steps focus on personal growth and change. They guide how we look at our own behavior, communicate honestly, and make things right when needed. When a concern is between two people, starting with a direct, one-on-one conversation is usually the most effective path. It keeps things grounded, respectful, and aligned with recovery principles.

The 12 Traditions help at the group level. If something is affecting a meeting—its tone, safety, or how it operates—the appropriate place to bring it is that meeting’s group conscious. This allows the group, as a whole, to listen, discuss, and decide together. It protects both unity and the autonomy of each meeting.

Some concerns go beyond individuals or a single meeting and affect the club as a whole. For those situations, the Austin Galano Club now has an online Safety Concern form, available on the website under the About menu. This creates a clear and consistent way to bring club-level concerns to the Austin Galano Club Board.

To ensure fairness and accuracy, all reports need to be based on first-hand experiences or direct observations. The Board does not take action on rumors, gossip, or second-hand information. This protects both the people involved and the integrity of the process.

In practice, this means:

  • Personal concerns: start with a direct conversation, guided by the Steps

  • Meeting concerns: bring them to the meeting’s group conscious, guided by the Traditions

  • Club concerns: use the Safety Concern form for Board review

This structure isn’t about limiting voices—it’s about making sure concerns are handled in the right place, in a way that supports both individual recovery and group health.

This resource provides full transparency on our club’s expectations and operational guidelines. By staying informed on these policies, we all help maintain the Austin Galano Club as a safe, structured, and supportive environment for everyone seeking recovery.

The goal is simple: a space where people feel safe, respected, and able to focus on recovery.
