Pride In Recovery
Austin Galano Club is excited, humbled, and grateful to be a designated beneficiary of the Austin Pride Foundation for 2016. The Austin Pride organizers choose a select few area non-profits each year to help support with the surplus proceeds from the Pride events. The Pride Foundation selected Galano for 2016, no strings attached…which is pretty awesome. Over the last several years, the Austin Galano Club community has participated in Austin Pride, both at the festival and the parade. We decided long ago it was important to be present in the broader community to provide information around resources available for 12-Step recovery, the range of 12-step programs, the club-house resources, and the meeting schedules. Hundreds of people stop by the booth every year, and several show up at meetings the following weeks. Being available to answer questions, or just let them know that these resources are available, has been rewarding in itself. The last 3 years in the parade, Galano has had a really vibrant presence walking in the parade. For those out there struggling with Alcohol, Drugs, Behavioral Addictions, or are friends/family of those affected by addiction, seeing such a group may be their first exposure to knowing we are in the community. This year, as a designated beneficiary, we are participating in the same way we have, with slightly higher visibility within the community. The community’s exposure to us is so critical, for those still suffering or looking for a solution. We are grateful that the Austin Pride Foundation has designated Austin Galano Club as a beneficiary for 2016, which helps us toward our core mission, providing a safe and affordable home for GLBTQ&A 12-Step recovery groups and their members. Join us at the Festival, August 27th, and definitely come walk with us in the Parade that evening…7:30 PM August 27th.
